KOH KONG CAMBODIA
Welcome to Koh Kong Cambodia. The new bridge and the road to Phnom Penh is now open. Koh Kong is a quaint and interesting border village that shouldn't be missed. Stop and enjoy us while traveling through SE Asia. Villages like Koh Kong are getting very rare nowadays. Children say hello, ice is cut by hand and although life is slow it is very enjoyable.

New !!!  Sticker Visa Scam

Many complaints of corrupt immagration officials demanding up to 1300 baht for the new sticker type visa. The real price is $20 usd. It seems they are pocketing ~$10 usd per visa. I complained and was told that Cambodia is a poor country and why do I make a small problem into a big one? Only when I demanded a receipt and said I would make a formal complaint in Phnom Penh did I get it for $20 usd.
Does Cambodia want tourism or not? Will someone please do something about these officials stealing money from the tourists ! What a way to be welcomed into a country !
Note: There is one English/Tourist guide who is going overboard in cheating/overcharging tourists. We have had many complaints about Mr "S".

Hotels & Guesthouses

There are only four real hotels here, the rest are guesthouses. A guesthouse has simple and basic rooms, some have Asian style (squat) bathrooms inside the room and the average price is 150 Baht for fan and 250 Baht with air-con. Some hotels have no-bathroom rooms for 100 Baht.
NOTE: The first time you get here the motorcycle taxi's will try to overcharge you. The real rate is 500 Riel or 5 Baht per ride. If you use them to find a hotel your hotel rate will go up by 50/100 Baht as they will expect (& get) a commission from the hotel. Better to walk to the hotel if you can or get let off a block or two before.

RESERVATIONS ARE NOT NEEDED. Hotels run at only 5% to 10% occupancy.

Restaurants

There are many small restaurants and places to eat. The only two we would recommend is Otto's Restaurant, Rooms and Meeting Place & the Foreigner Food Restaurant (But don't order any beef meal here, only Otto's can be trusted). It seems the larger restaurants have cook book cut-outs for their menus with no prices listed. You will be charged according to what you look like and the restaurant owners mood at the time. We decided to passover these so called business people.

Nightlife

This "Village" does not sleep. There is an active nightlife. Otto's is known as a meeting place for foreigners (open till 10pm). A few Karaoke clubs within town and a "Red Zone" is located 4 km south east of the traffic circle (take a taxi). Massage is traditional style in small shops. Many stay up all night in the small restaurants which all serve drinks as well as food. Note: The new Casino is at the "Koh Kong International Resort club" located on the Hat Lek side of the river, not in Koh Kong town. Motorbike or car taxis are available for small fees to get you there and back. (Pay no more than 50 Baht each way)

Koh Kong Information

I and many others like Koh Kong. It has its own unique village charm. Many Expats who live in Thailand use Koh Kong as thier "Visa Run". It has peace and quite, can be easily walked around, many cheap hotels food etc and there is some nightlife as well. You will see village life here. Kids will say hello and ice is cut by hand. Try Koh Kong and you will come back.
